ADD SOME
EXCITEMENT IN YOUR LIFE
The brain actually does
not differentiate between the feeling of anxiety and excitement. We choose to
give it a name. And the name we give it will trigger a physical response.
Let’s say for example you
have always been anxious about a certain ride in an amusement park. I want you
to close your eyes and feel that feeling right now. What are you experiencing?
Sweaty palms? Increased heart rate? Shakiness? Feeling of impending doom?
Now I want you to think
again about the same ride but instead I want you to tell yourself that you are
now excited about it, this is the best ride you have ever been on. In fact you
fell in love with your significant other on that very ride. And last year you
were the 1,000,000 customer and won $1,000,000.00 for riding it. I want you to
focus on how much fun it will be, on all the good memories attached with that ride.
Now what are you feeling? I bet you are not feeling anxious anymore. In fact
you are feeling pretty darn good aren’t you?
Has the ride changed?
No. What has changed? Your perspective.
You can apply this
technique to just about anything.
You only have to be
careful of one thing while performing this awesome technique. You cannot
replace the feeling of true fear. Fear is different than anxiety and worry.
Fear has a purpose. It is like the alarm on your house. It tells you that
something is not right and that you should pay attention and not stay on the
same course of action that created the fear. Fear is a tool. Fear is nature’s
strongest survival signal. Never ignore it
Worry and anxiety are both
choices. Those you can choose to replace.
So choose a little
excitement in your life.
